Street Science 2009 – Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Posted in Bboy, Events, Graffiti, Movie, Music  by Invasian Editor

After 10 days trip, finally I came back to “home” in Germany yesterday.

My trip started in Saarbrücken, Germany, then we spent one day in Luxembourg.

The best part always happens the last. My last stop was in Rotterdam,

heading there because of a 3 days hip hop event, Street Science. Honestly, this is

the first time for me to join such a big hip hop event, event like that rarely happens in Asia.

Let’s talk about the event later, like I said, the best part always stays the last.

First we head to Saarbrücken, a city located in southeast Germany. Our friend

show us some hot spots to paint over there, and we picked the one below:

It looks so cool where it is sitting next to the river with all those reflection!

We also planned some T action and checked out some spots one night, however,

it was rainy all the time (typical German weather), therefore we must

leave this city (sorry Phred). Then we went to another country, Luxembourg.

Pieces quality are pretty high over there…

After saying goodbye with my friends, I went to Köln to visit Timo. He brought

me to their office we had a little chat. We talked about the book Hip Hop Files and

i told him that I never get the chance to read tho it until days ago. I found

the book super interesting that it drew all my attention those nights, however,

I don’t have one and I want to continue reading badly. Then Timo was very kind

and generous that he gave me one! He also told me that he has the Bomber Magazine

which shows the first painted train,  done in around 1993 or 1994 in Hong Kong.

Thus I was looking for it out of 5 boxes of graffiti magazines. Too bad I couldn’t find it

and it was time to go to ROTTERDAM!!

Timo also gave me one Graffiti Magazine which has a sick cover! Crazy right?

and he told me it was a real setting inside the yard next to the train!!

I was very lucky that a cool girl joined me with 4 hours car ride together to go to R’dam.

Her name is Paulina. Time runs fast especially spending it with Paulina, It’s just rare

that you find someone has similar feeling, thinking and attitude as you whom you met

the 2nd day. It’s a pity she has to leave in the middle of the event. Anyway, finally I

reach Rotterdam, where i have passed it 2 years old without getting off from the train.

I was attracted by its architectures, I felt regret at that moment but now I am

so glad I made it to there during the event this year!

Street Science is presented by Hip Hop Huis from Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

This year they have the theme, Past, Present and Future. The first day I arrive,

I could already feel this strong atmosphere from the Hip Hop Huis, can you feel it?

Next day morning we had to get up pretty early for a meeting. We got up at 8am

and went down to have breakfast in hotel. First of all a friend of mine spotted me, he found

very unreal as he couldn’t believe it was me. In fact, I have already known he’d be there and

planned to visit his lecture. Instead of giving him an surprise, he surprised me as

I don’t expect we could have met that morning. Gemini, I didn’t say bye to you before

you left the event, but I guess we will meet again in HK =)

Something is more unreal to me. Can you believe this? one of your super idols

comes towards you and sit down at the same table as you, having breakfast together?

Imagine, as if you are a fan of Seen, you meet him out of a sudden,

then you join him for drinking and start chatting. OMG…She is Martha Cooper!

To me, it was the first time that my heart beats so fast when I sit next to a woman.

Martha, do you know how much respect you gain from me and the others?

Time to paint, full gear, spray paint, under construction. We gotta make the city more

colorful, artistic, beautiful, dirty?! Whatever you call.

I rushed back to the Gemini locking lecture, unfortunately, it was almost finished.

I wish I could be there when it started as I heard it was such a great video showcasing

the movement of locking.  Next it was Akim (Zeb Roc Ski) “From here to Fame” lecture

a well as a movie section, showing one of the most successful China hip hop documentaries,

Follow Your Heart. It was pretty interesting to watch it.

The B-dancing battles were really killing..Damn, too bad we missed the final!!!

More and better photos, go to Martha’s blog.

Man, he is 46 years old!

Pimp my ride!

Without Akim, I couldn’t be able to join this excellent event. It was one of my best trips

and this one gonna be a very unforgettable one. It’s likely you have met the right people

doing a right event without any bullshit. All the people I met was really nice and real.

They are doing it for the scene, the passion and the next generation. Mad props and

respects to Aruna, Cat 22, my homie Risk, lovely Mickey, the Brazlian writers and photographer, Baba,

Anne, Lisia, Sonja, CES, F.Lady, Aloha, Dizzle, Shek, Tisher, Nothing Fancy, Miken, Sander,

Gemini, Yvon Soglo, Hanifa, Mariska, all the bboys, bgirls, MCs, DJs, everyone who did come, and of course,

Kool Herc, Henry Chalfant, Martha Cooper and Zebster!

Wish I could write more about the event, but time to work / sleep, will upload more photos later.
